The brand was created as a celebration of the democratization process in South Africa, and from its inception, the wines have conveyed the spirit of South Africa to American consumers. A portion of the proceeds from the Indaba wines supports a scholarship for formerly disenfranchised South Africans who are interested in wine-related careers. Through growth of the brand and via the affiliated scholarship, Indaba is proud to be a part of the positive changes that are altering the face of South Africa’s wine industry.
Grapes were sourced from select vineyard sites in cooler areas of Stellenbosch and warmer regions of Perdeberg and Paarl. The Stellenbosch fruit contributes a soft, velvety character, while the Paarl component adds bold plum and black cherry flavors and the Perdeberg portion imparts red fruit flavors and the bright minerally profile typical of decomposed dolomite granite soils. Small amounts of Petit Verdot and Malbec from Stellenbosch add structure, richness and dark berry flavors.
Full, fat with classic plum and red cherry like fruit. Good depth and concentration. The challenging 2010 vintage was characterized by very low yields (due to heavy rains and strong winds early in the growing season) but a healthy, high quality crop that created wines of intense, concentrated flavor. Crafted in a fresh, clean style, this velvety Merlot offers enticing aromas and bright, juicy flavors of cherry, dark berry and plum backed by subtle mocha and herbal nuances and a delicate minerality.
Terrific with spicy meat dishes, zesty pasta. Versatile and approachable, it pairs well with pizza, pasta dishes, burgers and barbecued pork.
