"Tenuta Sassoregale lies on the eastern edge of the broad Ombrone river plain in the municipality of Civitella Paganico, in the province of Grosseto, covering some 38 hectares, of which 30 are planted to vine. The vines of Sangiovese, which makes up the bulk of the stock, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are at an elevation of between 100 and 150 metres above sea level. They stand on fertile, deep, moderately loose-packed soil with a prevalent clay fraction, although a small portion, planted to Syrah, has a more pebbly texture and a fraction of sand. The training system used is spurred cordon and planting density is high at more than 5,000 vines per hectare. Special agronomic techniques strive to keep impact on the environment low, ensuring the clusters reach technological, phenolic and aromatic ripeness.' - Winery Notes
Sangiovese is "the" grape of Italy. So many great wines have been made using this hardy variety. From Chianti to the new wave of "super Tuscan" blends. This wine could easily be labeled a "baby super Tuscan". A wine well worth trying.
Bright ruby red; characteristically varietal aromatics of cherries, forest fruits and spices, lifted by subtle aromatic herbs; assertively full entry, intense yet elegant structure and extract finishing attractively long with a reprise of the fragrant fruitiness and balsamic notes.
Perfect with grilled red meats, cured cold cuts and traditional Tuscan ewe’s milk cheeses.
